The growth and development of the Saltbox is indeed exciting and dynamic.
The Saltbox was established in 1983 by a small group of like-minded Christians who had a heart for a work which would promote Christian values and faith, and also unite individual churches. Initially financing the work from their own resources, they found premises in Burslem, the mother-town of what is known internationally as the Potteries, eventually relocating to a new office base in the City Centre in 2004.
And so the vision became a reality, and now the reality is bearing much fruit.

The Saltbox is actively involved in organising prayer, renewal and outreach initiatives, and is concerned to see people come to a real and personal knowledge of Jesus Christ as both Saviour and Lord. It also seeks to encourage greater discipleship within the wider Body of Christ and to motivate churches to take up the challenge of being "salt and light" in their communities.
Increasingly the Saltbox is now invited to represent faith communities by various secular bodies and partnerships both at a local and
regional level. The Saltbox is seen by many partners as a key specialist infrastructure organisation.
The Saltbox is behind the organising of such initiatives as conferences and concerts, celebrations and prayer events, and has become a focus for much Christian activity in the region. It has also become an information centre for all this is taking place locally, regionally and nationally. In 2006, the Saltbox completed a Faith Action Audit for faith groups in Stoke-on-Trent, seeking to map much of the local community work undertaken by faith groups. In 2008, a similar audit was completed for the county of Staffordshire.
The Saltbox has also developed its social responsibility work and now runs projects which seek to care for vulnerable local people: PhoneLink provides a telephone befriending service for elderly ‘shut-in’ people; Community Chaplaincy provides mentoring and housing support for local ex-offenders; Money Matters provides debt advice.
The whole ministry is overseen by the Saltbox staff and trustees, who blend vision, spirituality and common sense in developing the work.
