The Beth Johnson Foundation is holding a Volunteer Recruitment Open Day on the 7th December 2016 between 10am and 2pm. The event will be held at the Beth Johnson offices which is at 64 Princes Road, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 7JL. The two projects that we are looking for volunteers to help out in are The Staffordshire Cancer Advocacy and Support Project and North Staffordshire Cancer Lifestyle Project. Both projects are funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Staffordshire Cancer Advocacy and Support Project supplies independent advocacy for people 50 + who have been affected by cancer either as a patient, family member, friend or carer. The North Staffordshire Cancer Lifestyle project supports people 50+ who are living with or after cancer and helps them to set goals and make small changes in their lifestyle, maybe to become more active or to make healthy food choices.
Volunteers can help in many areas, training to become advocates and lifestyle buddies or we are looking for people to help out with publicity and promotions, collecting clients stories, social and digital media and also have opportunities for people who are only able to volunteer from home helping out with research for the projects. Lots of the volunteering is on an ad hoc basis and people do not need to commit to a set day or number of hours every week.
So if you live in Staffordshire or Wolverhampton make 2017 the year you start to volunteer and make a difference to the lives of older people affected by cancer. Pop in and see us on the 7th December, have a mince pie, a cuppa and learn more about the roles available.
