CareLink among five local charities recognised by intu Potteries

CareLink receives a cheque from intu Potteries

intu Potteries welcomed representatives from five local charities and presented them with a £1,000 donation each. The presentation was held at the centre on 7 October.

The charities awarded a donation were; DEAFvibe, AEDdonate, Shropshire & Staffordshire Blood Bikes, Love4Leah and Saltbox.

DEAFvibe supports individuals, families, friends and carers with hearing loss or dual sensory loss from birth, gradual or sudden. The £1,000 donation will be used to provide branded clothing for volunteers including interpreters, communicator guides, electronic note takers, and lip speakers who support the charity at local events.

AEDdonate provide defibrillators to public areas such as schools, pubs, clubs and community groups. The £1,000 donation will help fund a defibrillator to be positioned at the main entrance of intu Potteries to be utilized in the city centre of Stoke on Trent both when the centre is open and closed.

Saltbox support the most vulnerable groups in Stoke on Trent to overcome exclusion, deprivation and those affected by poverty. The £1,000 donation will help fund their CareLink service working closely with isolated older people in the community.

Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes provide a free local service to hospitals and labs transporting blood, bone marrow and donated breast milk for premature babies. The charity is run wholly by volunteers and received no funding from the NHS. The £1,000 donation will be used to fund projectors and portable screen to enable them to give talks on the charity to local community groups including the Lions, Womens Institute and Rotary groups to raise awareness and donations.

Love4Leah provide accommodation for children undergoing cancer treatment. They have a specially fitted caravan on a local site where families can have a short break and spend valuable time together. The £1,000 donation will fund 1 weeks holiday for a family plus some extras to make it extra special.

Paul Francis, intu Potteries General Manager, pictured said: “The team at intu Potteries are always keen to lend a hand in the local community. We received many very worthy applications and hope that our donations really make a difference to people in our area.”

Carlton Ray, Rider for Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes said: “As a charity we are 100% reliant on public funds to keep us active and to help people and the NHS, so when intu Potteries donated the money to us it was amazing and is such a massive help, it makes us proud to be associated with such a wonderful group as intu Potteries.”
