Statement of Repentance

The morning leaders’ meeting on 31 January 2002 focused on a Statement of Repentance. Following a time of sharing, the leaders together prayed through this Statement of Repentance. In the evening meeting on the following Wednesday, over 500 people were invited to pray through the Statement of Repentance. This was to help focus on what had been termed as the “dark cave of division”. It was followed by a united sharing of communion which was a most moving time.

DANIEL 9:4-5
"I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commands, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws."

Statement of Repentance

"As a company of xxxxxxxxx (Anglicans, Baptists, Catholics, etc) we earnestly desire to openly confess both to one another and to the body of Christ, the sin of division and lack of unity within the churches across our region.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE our need of repentance in order to bring healing and restoration.

WE REPENT of any wrong attitudes, suspicion, harsh words and unloving deeds that have caused division within the Body of Christ across our region.

WE REPENT of our lack of desire to build deep relationships and lasting unity in the Body of Christ.

WE REPENT of our lack of purpose and passion to bring the gospel of Christ to the citizens of North Staffordshire.

WE HUMBLE ourselves before one another, asking forgiveness from God and our fellow Christians, and praying for grace to pursue those things that make for peace and unity. Amen."
