Faith Action Audit (Staffordshire)

In 2008, the Saltbox completed a faith action audit of the community care work undertaken by faith groups in the county of Staffordshire, excluding Stoke-on-Trent (S-o-T FAA ).

An encouraging 49% of the county’s 500 individual faith groups responded to the audit questionnaire, providing information on the community care activities that they organise or support. As well as mapping what is currently taking place in localities the aim of the audit was to also identify potential partnership opportunities which will help bring about beneficial change & community transformation.

Staffordshire's (excl Stoke-on-Trent) Representative Summary is:

  • 500        faith groups
  • 49%         response rate
  • 1,100+     community initiatives
  • 51,000+    weekly users
  • 4,800+      weekly volunteers
  • 10,500+    weekly volunteer hours
  • £3M         volunteers contribution p/a @ min wage

When combined with the Stoke-on-Trent audit the representative summary for the whole county is:

  • 650        faith groups
  • 1,400+     community initiatives
  • 64,000+   weekly Users
  • 6,800+     weekly volunteers
  • 15,500+   weekly volunteer hours
  • £4.4M+    volunteers contribution p/a @ min wage

Audit partners included the Lichfield CoE Diocese, Staffs Consortium of Infrastructure Organisations, Staffs County Council, Staffs Fire & Rescue, West Mids Faiths Forum.

The aim of the audit is to help faith groups to begin to share good practice & to explore providing more support and training opportunities. It is hoped that statutory & other partners see the value and extent of faith-based work & that this will help to stimulate more partnership engagement, especially in the Local Area Agreement.
