Older People's Engagement Network (OPEN): the voice of over-50s in Stoke-on-Trent
The Older People's Engagement Network is an exciting project giving people aged 50+ opportunities to influence how services are provided in our city.
OPEN holds city-wide forum meetings with the specific aim of giving the 50+ community in Stoke an opportunity to have your about the public services that affect you. That could be anything from the NHS to the provision of a wide range of public services from the City Council.
The forums are a way for us to connect the public face-t-face with those who make decisions and shape services that you might use. Work with community groups to encourage as many people as possible to give their input into these decisions. As an OPEN member we also make sure that you are kept up to date with any progress or changes that have been made based on your recommendations.
If you are over 50 and would like to have your say about the services that affect you, see below for ways to get involved and upcoming events.
You Said, We Did!
The Older People's Engagement Network (OPEN) was launched back in February 2016 as a channel for the over-50s community in Stoke to voice their opinions on public services. Since then, OPEN have engaged with over 1,000 people across the city on topics such as transport, healthcare and home care services. In just one year, it's clear to see that OPEN has become the go-to project organisations looking to have meaningful engagement with large numbers of the city's older community.
Derek Brindley, OPEN Chair, says: "The Older People’s Engagement Network started in February 2016 ... and are now recognised throughout the city as a voice for older people. There are many groups and meetings that take place in the community to ascertain older people’s views, but none that work at the heart of the community like OPEN does. We not only listen but try and get the answers to feed back to residents."
