Just a small selection of our recent successes
Older couple struggling financially
Client A is in his 80’s. He and his wife were struggling financially due to health conditions, increasing bills and a low income. We helped them complete a benefit check and identified they were both eligible for a number of benefits including Pension Credit and Council Tax Support. We advised them they could also be eligible for Attendance Allowance due to their health conditions. This was life-changing for the couple who went on to claim and receive all these benefits, and as a result, they also became eligible for additional benefits, including a free TV licence, winter fuel payments, and NHS costs. In total their income was increased by about £17,000 per year. In addition, we helped them to apply for a Blue Badge which meant they could park closer to amenities, which, due to their health conditions, also made a positive impact on their lives.

Help with anxiety PIP claim
Client B is a woman who has faced significant challenges with anxiety, making it difficult for her to leave her home or be in public spaces. After meeting with her at home, we recognized that she might be eligible for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and guided her through the application process. Her claim was successful, resulting in an additional annual income of £6,700, plus back pay. This financial support has enabled her to cover expenses that were previously beyond her reach, such as taxi fares. As a result, she can now attend appointments without the overwhelming fear of being in crowded situations.
Couple with child
Couple C found themselves relying on a food bank due to financial difficulties after recently gaining custody of a young child, which brought them significant anxiety. During a benefits check, we discovered they were missing out on Council Tax Support, and we assisted them in applying for it successfully, leading to a yearly income increase of over £700. Additionally, we secured a grant for essential household items, allowing them to allocate their budget more effectively. These combined measures eased their financial strain, enabling them to provide better for their child while significantly reducing their stress levels and boosting their confidence as a family.

Help with benefits eligiblity
Client D was battling both physical and mental health issues and lived in an unsafe property that lacked heating, exacerbating their conditions. We referred them to a service that provided emergency heating and identified welfare benefits for which they were eligible. With our assistance, they successfully increased their annual income by approximately £13,500, along with £5,000 in backdated entitlements. Recognising the client’s difficulties in self-care, we also referred them to adult social care for ongoing support.
Low income and mounting debts
Client E had to leave employment due to health concerns, leading to struggles with low income and mounting debts. We identified additional benefits they could claim and assisted with the application process. We also helped them secure discretionary payments to ease their housing and council tax financial burdens. Thanks to our debt advisor, they received guidance on managing their debts, including processing a Debt Relief Order that resulted in over £20,000 of debt cancellation. In total, their yearly financial gain exceeded £30,000. Throughout this journey, we also assisted with food and fuel expenses. The client has now regained control over their finances and enjoys a more secure and emotionally stable life, giving them hope for the future.

Young family with mounting debts in temporary accommodation
Client F is a single parent who faced eviction, leaving her and her children in temporary accommodation. The burden of multiple debts caused her considerable anxiety, particularly regarding providing for her young family. Our team at Money Matters helped her eliminate nearly £30,000 of debt through a Debt Relief Order and assisted her in accessing charitable grants and support from the Household Support Fund for food, household essentials, and children’s school uniforms. Additionally, we helped her secure over £900 in benefits. Overall, our dedicated support resulted in nearly £35,000 in financial gains, significantly improving her financial and emotional well-being and enhancing her ability to support her children.
New baby and new home
Client G reached out to us after moving into a new, unfurnished property shortly after having a baby, leaving her without money for food. With the support from the Household Support Fund, we provided her with an emergency voucher for grocery shopping and assisted her in applying for grants to carpet her home, making it a more suitable living environment for her and her child
