Financial Capability Volunteer

Principal function: To hold foodbank drop-in sessions, triaging foodbank clients and providing Financial Capability support.

Location: Variable, as required, at various Stoke-on-Trent foodbank centres in the local community.

Hours: Variable, a commitment of at least two hours per week

Duties: To play an active part in the Money Matters team, including:

  • Holding Money Matters foodbank drop-in sessions at Stoke-on-Trent foodbanks
  • Providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere to clients
  • Triaging clients’ situations and signposting or referring them, either internally or externally, for appropriate further support
  • Carrying out benefits checks using Money Matters online benefits calculator
  • Completing an income and expenditure exercise with clients
  • Supporting clients with money saving, budgeting and money management tips
  • Recording notes and outcomes on our system
  • Scanning and uploading documents
  • Undertaking training as necessary, including completing relevant CMA online training and shadowing others at foodbanks
  • Attending team meetings

Reporting to: Senior Advisor / Debt Caseworker

Training and supervision:

  • All volunteers will get in house training
  • Supervision, as required, will be provided
  • Further training opportunities may be available

Personal qualities required: All volunteers need to

  • be enthusiastic, proactive, and willing to learn new skills
  • have a friendly, approachable manner.
  • Have strong communication skills and
  • Be able to speak and understand English well
  • Be computer literate
  • be willing to hold drop-in sessions at local foodbanks.
